Welcome to Avebury House

CELEBRATE YOUR EVENT IN A HERITAGE HOUSE

A beautiful Victorian home with lush gardens

Avebury House is set within Avebury Park, an English-style garden setting with expansive lawns and large deciduous trees. The grounds also includes a popular children's playground and a paddling pool.

Built as the Flesher family homestead in 1885, the heritage house was refurbished by the Christchurch City Council in 1999 after many years as the Cora Wilding Youth Hostel. It is now a perfect venue for workshops, events and other special celebrations, as well as a hub for local community groups and classes.

Avebury House can be hired for the day or part thereof. You can hire the whole house, or as many individual rooms you require. The house is managed by the Avebury House Community Trust for the community to enjoy.

The Richmond Room is open daily for visitors to learn more about Avebury House's history and its surrounding gardens.

Dawn Planting: 5 July at 7am at Lois Place
Come along just before dawn to watch the Matariki star cluster rise then join us for a dawn planting at Evan's Way - a Red Zone project celebrating the return of the land to a river delta.

The gate at 30 Flesher Ave will be open to drive in to the former Lois Place cul de sac. Or bike or walk the city to sea pathway. We will supply gloves, tools and a hot beverage.

Star Trail Walks
: 8 and 10 July, 6:30pm at Avebury House
Rug up warm, and bring the family along after sundown for a wander through the Matariki in the Zone star trail!

On Wednesday 8th and Friday 10th July, at 6.30pm, we'll gather in front of Avebury House. From there we'll go through the playground, and on to find our way around nine stars in the Matariki cluster, each lit up throughout the community garden. We'll admire the displays, learn a little about each whetū/star as we go, we'll make our Matariki wishes, and if it's a clear night, we might even spot some real stars!

Please wear suitable clothes and footwear for being outside at night; you are welcome to bring a torch, children, and even pooches on leads. We politely discourage headlamps, as they tend to blind fellow walkers, think downward facing lights! The walk should take between 40-45 mins.

Parking will be available in Avebury Car Park, on Eveleyn Couzins Ave, opposite the house. We don't mind chilly, or even a bit of drizzle, but if it's stormy we will have to cancel - keep an eye on the event page discussion or Avebury's facebook page for any updates!
