Avebury is a community trust that operates as a social enterprise that invests revenue in fostering community connections and providing an environment in which educational, social and cultural activities can flourish.

Avebury house has undergone significant changes in the past 18 months culminating in a new strategic plan and the appointment of a Manager, Social Enterprise to lead the organisation. In 2017, we undertook a relaunch resulting in over 800 people attending our Teddy Bear Picnic and Gala over two days in November. Avebury has a strong and positive relationship with key stakeholders and funders.
Over the next few years we will be looking to increase both the range of community services we provide and the number of people utilising those services. We will have a strong focus on driving an increase in earned revenue through increased use of our premises and through entrepreneurial activities consistent with our purpose.
Avebury is currently served by a Board of four trustees and is seeking to recruit up to three (3) trustees. This is a voluntary position and is unpaid.
Particular Skills/ Competencies Sought
At this time we are seeking Trustee with the following skills and competencies:
We are also seeking practical people who can bring real world experience to the challenges facing Avebury.
Candidates must also be able to demonstrate a connection with the local area and a passion for the mission of Avebury.
The Board is committed to ensuring that, as much as possible, the Board reflects our community and comprises a diverse range of age, ethnicity, gender and perspective of thought. Diversity will be a key consideration in determining the make-up of our Board.
Commitment Required
Monthly Board Meetings – currently on the third Tuesday of every month - for approximately three (3) hours together with a yearly half day strategic planning session. Trustees will also be expected to make themselves available for events, presentation and fundraising activities. Given the growth stage of the organisation it is important that Trustees are available to provide advice and guidance to our Manager, Social Enterprise on areas of expertise and are available to provide input as appropriate.

- The Board will then shortlist candidates and conduct interviews.
- It is expected that the candidate will commence with orientation in early February 2018.
