Richmond Community Garden

Following the 2010-2011 earthquake sequence a few locals got together and decided to reactivate the small kitchen garden by Avebury House. As success and volunteers grew, they eyed up the 2 acres of land that had been cleared of housing between Swanns Rd and Eveleyn Couzins Ave. In 2017 LINZ approved the Richmond Community Garden for a 2-year lease, and ever since they have been an unstoppable and positive force for community wellbeing and sustainable living. As well as the community garden, there is now a Fungi Farm, a shared Riverlution EcoHub, a mud kitchen and a burgeoning container cafe by the river. They also run workshops and make produce to sell at their Little Shop.

Based in the
EcoHub at 46A Vogel St, if you want to volunteer in the garden, or learn about any of the exciting projects happening in our back yard, you can pop in to Vogel St, visit them on Facebook or their website, or get in touch at: [email protected]
