Richmond Community Garden
Following the 2010-2011 earthquake sequence a few locals got together and decided to reactivate the small kitchen garden by Avebury House. As success and volunteers grew, they eyed up the 2 acres of land that had been cleared of housing between Swanns Rd and Eveleyn Couzins Ave. In 2017 LINZ approved the Richmond Community Garden for a 2-year lease, and ever since they have been an unstoppable and positive force for community wellbeing and sustainable living. As well as the community garden, there is now a Fungi Farm, a shared Riverlution EcoHub, a mud kitchen and a burgeoning container cafe by the river. They also run workshops and make produce to sell at their Little Shop.
